Shropshire Diamond Jubilee Pageant declared a huge success

More than 30,000 people enjoyed the sunshine at RAF Cosford as Shropshire welcomed The Queen to a spectacular Diamond Jubilee Pageant.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were treated to a colourful procession featuring 5,000 schoolchildren and floats celebrating the past 60 years of Shropshire life.  The royal party also had a tour of the RAF Museum’s Cold War Exhibition during the event on Thursday 12 July 2012.

A team led by the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, made up of Shropshire Council, Telford & Wrekin Council, RAF Cosford and RAF Cosford Museum organised the free event, and declared the day a great success.

The Lord Lieutenant, Mr Algernon Heber-Percy, said:

“It was a wonderful day and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.  We were extremely lucky with the weather – the sun shone all day – and I would like to thank everyone for making the event such a success.”

Station Commander at RAF Cosford, Group Captain, Jamie Johnston, said:

“It has been an enormous honour and privilege for RAF Cosford to have played its part in Shropshire’s Jubilee Pageant, a once in a lifetime event, that has demonstrated the county’s appreciation of and support for Her Majesty.”

Shropshire Council’s leader, Keith Barrow, added:

“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved with the day, and I am incredibly proud that Shropshire has delivered such a wonderful event.  It was an honour to meet The Queen and I am sure she enjoyed the pageant as much as everyone did.”
