Organisers of the Sundorne and Battlefield Fun Day in Shrewsbury were delighted to receive a donation from the Sundorne residents action group to enhance the event for local residents.

The Sundorne and Battlefield Fun Day is on Saturday 14 July 2012 on Meadow Farm Drive green (adjacent to The Lantern) from 12noon to 4pm, following the success of last year’s event.

Helena Smith, former Sundorne residents action group committee member, said:

“We had a committee of local people and councillors that met at a shop in Moston Road, known as the ‘drop in centre’, where people could sit, have coffee and chat and sociably air any local grievances.  A youth club was formed and, at the close of the drop in centre, we agreed that some funds should be used for the benefit of local children and young people and the fun day is positive thing to support.”

Councillor for Sundorne, Karen Burgoyne, said:

‘The donation is a welcome boost to the fun day and will help to enhance what is already looking like a brilliant event.  The fun day is an opportunity for the whole community to get together and enjoy lots of activities, games and performances arranged by local agencies and community groups.”

Activities planned for the event include a circus skills workshops and performances, a fire show, cake decorating competitions, archery, arts and crafts, an inflatable football and much more.
