The Post Office at Dudleston Heath has been successfully moved to Criftins Parish Hall, thanks to £15,206 funding under Shropshire Council’s Rural Challenge Fund.

The move, which took place in May 2012, came after residents feared it would close due to the condition of the building.  Now, as well as securing the future of the Post Office, residents benefit from an improved and more accessible facility.

Steve Davenport, Shropshire Councillor for St Martins, who applied for the funding alongside the Post Office and parish hall, said:

“This is an excellent example of communities pooling resources and solving issues.  The inclusion of the Post Office facility in the village hall helps retain a service that is vital to a rural location.  The Rural Challenge Fund was a timely solution to enable the project to happen.  I hope that the retention of the Post Office will bring economic benefit to the area for years to come.”

Under the Rural Challenge Fund, part of the Market Towns Revitalisation Project, £500,000 was made available to support Shropshire’s rural communities.  This funding has all now been allocated.
