Game on! Sportswear and Games in Shropshire
There’s a new display in the Costume Gallery at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery (SMAG) exploring the world of sportswear through the ages.
From now until December 2026, visitors can see costumes straight from the museum stores and worn by Shropshire sportspeople from times past.
On display are Olympic outfits worn by Shropshire Olympian Alison Williamson and Paralympian Mickey Bushell.
Discover the strange world of swimwear from times past, complemented by swimming pool signs from Ludlow Swimming pool.
See how tennis outfits changed through the early years of the Twentieth century and can you spot the County Cricket cap worn by a local member of the team?
Discover jockey’s silks, riding jackets and the historic Shropshire Bowman tailcoat.
There’s also a chance to get up close with a signed Shrewsbury Town FC football shirt and football scarves from their trip to Wembley, share your fond memories of the club and look through a short history of the county’s only professional football team.

SMAG is closed on Sundays and Mondays but open the rest of the week 10am-4pm.
