The shortlist for the prestigious LGC Awards 2026 has been announced with Shropshire Council being nominated in two categories.
Shire Services has been nominated in the Large Team of the Year Category and Shropshire Council Anti-Racism Forum (SCARF) is shortlisted in the Diversity and Inclusion Category.
The response from across the sector was described as ‘outstanding’, reflecting the incredible quality, innovation and commitment within local government.
Martin George, acting editor of LGC, said:
“We received more than 1,000 entries to the LGC Awards 2026, making it another record breaking year. It’s a huge achievement to make the shortlist.
“All too often, councils are the unsung heroes of their local areas, with brilliant staff working tirelessly to serve their communities.
“These awards are a chance to celebrate their innovation, dedication and compassion. It’s brilliant to see such a widespread and diverse range of councils and combined authorities represented on this year’s shortlist. Best of luck to all of those shortlisted.”
Leader of Shropshire Council Heather Kidd said:
“In terms of SCARF, it’s a huge accolade and recognition of all the work the team does in identifying, challenging and addressing racism and celebrating diversity.
“Shire Services have shown what an incredible team they are and the shortlisting further highlights the exceptional efforts they make across their remit involving catering, hospitality, food safety, compliance consulting, training, and concierge services.”
The winners will be announced on Wednesday 10 June at the 30th anniversary of the awards event in London.
