One-way closure of Porthill Road, Shrewsbury for gas main work
A one-way closure will be in place on Porthill Road, Shrewsbury from 16 March to 20 April [2026] while Cadent Gas carries out gas main replacement work.
During the work contractors working on behalf of Cadent Gas will replace the existing cast iron gas main with a new, more reliable polyethylene main, from the Pengwern Road junction to outside No. 61 Porthill Road.
To allow the work to take place safely and to help minimise disruption, a one-way road closure will be in place, preventing traffic from travelling in a westbound direction along Porthill Road towards Shelton Road.
A signed diversion route will be provided, and access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout.
This work is being carried out ahead of planned surface dressing on Porthill Road, to ensure the gas main is upgraded before the new road surface is applied, to prevent the road from being dug up again in the near future, and to reduce the risk of future gas leaks or network failures.
Residents and local businesses will receive advance notification, and advance warning signs will be installed on site two weeks before the start of the project.
