How football clubs spoke up

To raise awareness locally, Shropshire Council invited everyone across the county to join the Shropshire Speaks Up campaign by taking part in a variety of activities in support of White Ribbon.

This county-wide call to action aimed to bring together individuals, organisations, sports clubs, and community groups to name a few, to take a stand against violence towards women and girls.

As part of the campaign, football clubs across Shropshire were encouraged to record short videos, sharing their commitment to ending violence against women and girls.

As a White Ribbon Accredited organisation, Shropshire Council is proud to support White Ribbon Day 2025 and the “We Speak Up” campaign.

Ruth Houghton, Cabinet member r for social care, said:

Our thanks to Dawley Wanderers U12 Girls and The New Saints FC for stepping up—their voices remind us that change starts with all of us. Watch, share, and add your voice to help end violence against women and girls.

White Ribbon UK is a leading charity working to end men’s violence against women and girls. Their mission is to create a culture of respect and equality where violence has no place.

This year’s campaign encourages everyone to speak up. Learn more about White Ribbon and its work here: https://www.whiteribbon.org.uk

By speaking up and actively participating, football clubs and their members are helping to break the silence around gender-based violence and inspire others to do the same. Their involvement reinforces the message that everyone has a part to play in creating a safer society.

Together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of women and girls across the county.
