Closure of St John’s Hill, Shrewsbury for gas main replacement

St John’s Hill in Shrewsbury will be closed from 5 January to 20 February [2026] while Cadent Gas replaces the existing cast iron gas main with a new polyethene main, between Murivance and Cross Hill.

During the closure a signed diversion route will be in place, and access to residential and to business properties will be maintained.

As buses will be prohibited from accessing St John Hill’s during the works, Cadent have agreed to install a temporary bus stop on St Chad’s Terrace (opposite St Chad’s Church) for passengers accessing the town centre whilst the weekend pedestrianised High Street closure is in place.

Cadent will have their customer liaison teams on site to notify affected residents and businesses, and advance warning signs will be erected two weeks prior to works starting.
