Shropshire Council proudly supports International Men’s Day (IMD), a global day to celebrate the contributions of men and boys and raise awareness of the challenges they face—especially those that are hidden, stigmatised, or misunderstood.

International Men's Day

This year, we’re placing a spotlight on male victims of domestic abuse as men often face unique barriers to seeking help—such as fear of judgement, lack of awareness, or limited access to tailored services.

We also acknowledge other key issues impacting men and boys which include but are not limited to:

  • Mental health and male suicide
  • Social isolation and marginalisation
  • Barriers to support and help-seeking

IMD is an opportunity to speak up for male survivors, challenge stigma, and promote inclusive, trauma-informed support across our communities and workplaces. We encourage you to get involved this international men’s day.

Cllr Ruth Houghton, portfolio holder for social care said:

International Men’s Day is a chance to celebrate men and boys while shining a light on issues that are too often hidden. Domestic abuse can affect anyone, and male victims can face unique barriers—fear of judgement, stigma, and limited access to support. Today, we send a clear message: you are not alone, and support is available.’

Take action. Start a conversation. Make a difference.
