Free elf workshop experience for children at Shrewsbury’s Darwin shopping centre

Shrewsbury families are set for a magical festive treat this December as The Darwin shopping centre in Shrewsbury launches its Elf Workshop, a free interactive Christmas workshop designed especially for children.

From 10 to 23 December, the lower level of the Centre will be transformed into a sparkling Elf Workshop filled with festive scenes, joyful activities and plenty of Christmas cheer.

And on Saturday 13 and Saturday 20 December from 11am to 3pm, 30-minute sessions invite children to step into Santa’s world and become official elf recruits. Upon arrival, little ones will be welcomed by friendly elves before taking part in a series of fun, imaginative activities including taking the Elf Oath, testing toys in Santa’s Toy Testing Zone, sorting letters in the North Pole Sorting Station, and even joining in a cheerful festive sing-along.

The workshop will feature enchanting décor including wooden fencing, Christmas trees, and eco bunting, creating a picture-perfect festive backdrop.

The set will remain in place from 10 to 23 December, offering families the chance to enjoy photo opportunities throughout the period – even outside workshop times. A special early-access quiet session will also be available for SEND families, ensuring the experience is accessible to all.

Best of all, the entire workshop experience is completely free, offering families an affordable way to enjoy festive fun, crafts, and interactive play. Places are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so families are encouraged to arrive early.

Christmas decorations at The Darwin

In the spirit of giving, The Darwin is once again supporting the Santa’s Little Stars Toy Donation initiative, helping ensure children across Shropshire can enjoy the magic of Christmas morning. Visitors are invited to donate new, unwrapped toys by 30 November, with collection points located at Little Stars in The Collective on the Lower Level, or in designated containers on each floor of the centre.

Kevin Lockwood, Centre manager of The Darwin, said:

“We’re thrilled to bring this magical experience to the centre and offer families something truly special this Christmas. The workshop is designed to spark imagination, spread joy, and create lasting memories.

“We’re proud to be part of the Shrewsbury community, and we hope the workshop encourages families to make a day of their visit – enjoying the atmosphere, exploring our fantastic shops, and soaking up everything The Darwin has to offer this Christmas.”
