The Rainy Day Trust is a charity working to support people who have worked in the home improvement and enhancement industry in domestic rather than commercial trade and apprenticeships. Now the project is looking for support through Crowdfund Shropshire to raise funds and continue its work.

It supports people in hardship and financial difficulty in a wide range of ways covering areas of support such as training, financial assistance, fuel poverty help, counselling, benefits support and more.

Working in partnership with Complex Simplicity, the Rainy Day Trust aims to provide a programme of events and workshops in Ludlow and surrounding areas.

Creative Connections

The Creative Connections project will foster creativity, connection, and growth through workshops blending art, skill-building, and sustainability to combat isolation and support vulnerable groups in a welcoming space. Participants will learn skills in furniture upcycling among other crafts. There is a strong focus on sustainable practices, repurposing of items to reduce waste in landfill and bring old items back to life.

Crowdfund Shropshire is a civic crowdfunding platform delivered by Shropshire Council in partnership with crowdfunding specialists, Spacehive.

Other partners include Shropshire VCS Assembly, Community Resource and the Voluntary and Community Support Team, Shropshire Wildlife Trust and Energize. The approach matches larger public sector pledges (awards) with local fundraising.

Shropshire Council and its partners have been able to financially support the project with a pledge of just over £3,000. This uses funds from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund which proactively supports delivery of the UK-government’s five national missions: pushing power out to communities everywhere, with a specific focus to help kickstart economic growth and promoting opportunities in all parts of the UK.

Cllr Alex Wagner, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Communities has encouraged support for the project:

Crowdfund Shropshire has been a great way of allowing Shropshire Council to support community projects alongside community donations and support. It is difficult to find resources alone, but by working together we can raise the funds to make a difference. If you are a local resident and feel able to donate to this project, or others on Crowdfund Shropshire, that support will mean a lot to the county’s volunteers, charities, CICs and other organisations who work so hard to meet local needs.

Cllr Andy Boddington, Councillor for the Ludlow North area commented:

We all understand the importance of recycling, re-use and reducing our environmental impact. It is great to see a project in Ludlow that is combining a focus on sustainability with the development of new skills in furniture restoration.

The project is hoping to bring people together, blending artistic exploration with practical skill-building, in a way that will create an inclusive space for participants and result in a community exhibition or auction. I would encourage anyone living within the Ludlow area and beyond to support this ambitious new project.
