News from our partners: Plans submitted for county housing development

Plans have been submitted to Shropshire Council for a housing development focusing on delivering sustainable and cutting-edge homes in Shrewsbury.

Cornovii Homes, Shropshire Council’s wholly owned homebuilding company, has submitted plans for 283 homes to the west of the town.

The development would provide a mix of one through to four-bedroom properties, which will be a mix of apartments and houses and will form part of the Shrewsbury West Sustainable Urban Extension.

The development, near Welshpool Road, would offer a mix of affordable, shared ownership and market sale homes.

Dean Carroll, Shropshire Council cabinet member for housing and assets, said:-

“I am pleased to see Cornovii’s planning application for the development has been submitted.

“We understand the need to meet local housing demand and this application presents an opportunity to create sustainable housing for local people at a competitive market value.”

Harpreet Rayet, managing director of Cornovii Homes, said:-

“We are excited to lodge plans for this development and I am confident we have a mix that the market in Shropshire is not currently catering for.

“This application demonstrates that Cornovii Homes is fully committed to delivering a mixed tenure developments to meet the growing housing need within Shropshire and help people to take the first steps on the property ladder.”

It is hoped planning permission will be granted early spring 2025 with works to begin in the summer and the first homeowners moving in early summer 2026.

The development will benefit from green, play space and public open spaces, and is forecast to generate funds to be spent on enhancing and supporting local infrastructure.

Once validated the application, reference 24/04563/FUL, will be available to view on the Shropshire Council planning portal.
