News from our partners Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust

To mark International Nurses Day 2024, staff from Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust (ShropCom) are coming together to host a week of celebrations to show their nursing staff how much they are valued.

Kicking off the week Patricia Davies, Chief Executive and a team of colleagues donned their trainers and ran as ‘Team ShropCom’ at the well-known Shrewsbury Park Run on Saturday 11 May 2024. It was a real team event with the team coming together to do something fun and inspiring to mark the start of the week.

Patricia Davies, Chief Executive at ShropCom, said:-

“This week is a great opportunity for staff to come together to celebrate International Nurses Day. As a practising nurse myself, I find it particularly special to be joining colleagues to celebrate. Our ShropCom nurses work incredibly hard, and we wanted to do something to show how much we value them.”

As part of the celebrations, the Trust has launched their ShropCom Nursing Heroes campaign, with staff invited to nominate their fellow nursing colleagues. They have been inundated with lots of moving and inspirational nominations which will be shared across the Trust’s social media channels this week.

In addition, as no celebration is complete without cake and goody bags a team of staff are visiting bases across the county each delivering delicious cakes and bags of treats to the different community nursing teams. The Trust are incredibly grateful to the hospital kitchen teams and Sidoli Desserts for providing the cakes.

Patricia Davies continued:-

“I want to say a huge thank you to all our wonderful ShropCom nurses and the colleagues who joined me on Saturday to help launch the week!  We are incredibly proud of our nurses and the wealth of talent they bring to the Trust and the high level of patient care they deliver every day.”

International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on 12 May, the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. This year’s theme is “Our nurses, our future, the economic power of care” and there were a number of events taking place across the globe to celebrate and honour all nurses and their associations.
