Spotlight on history of Shropshire’s homes

If only walls could talk! Have you ever wondered about the history of your home, the people and the lives lived there before you? Shropshire Archives may be able to help you.

The museums and archives service is hosting a two-hour workshop, called House History, to lift the lid on the wide range of information stored within the Shropshire Council records and how people can use the information for their own research.

Robert Macey, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and digital, said:-

“There are so many old properties in Shropshire it would truly be fascinating if the walls could talk, but this opportunity is certainly the next best thing.

“Shropshire Council’s archives service holds so many records and on so many different subjects, and can throw the spotlight on different aspects of our county’s social history. The experts will be sharing their tips on how to use the archives to access the very best research on people’s homes, the people who have lived there and the story of their development.”

The House History workshop is on Friday 13 October 2023 from 2pm to 4pm at Shropshire Archives in Shrewsbury. It costs £12 per person and can be booked at www.shropshiremuseums.org.uk/events
