Best Start for Life event to be held for parents and carers in Shropshire

Shropshire Council are holding a free event for parents and carers of children under 5, along with partners in the community, to showcase support on offer to give children the best start in life.

The event will take place on Friday 27 October 2023 at The Lantern in Shrewsbury from 10am until 4pm and is fully inclusive and accessible. 

There is a full schedule of activity throughout the day, with representatives from Shropshire Council, Shropshire Fire and Rescue, Shropshire Community NHS Trust and many more. Visitors are welcome to stay for the day or drop in at any time to take part. 

There are interactive play activities for toddlers and young children, as well as a calm zone for anybody who needs a quiet space during the event. 

Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult social care, public health and communities, said:- 

“This a great opportunity for families to find out what services are currently on offer in Shropshire and share what they would like to see in future. We know that the early years of a child’s life are hugely important to their lasting health and wellbeing and, along with our community partners, we have many services in place to support this. Everybody is welcome to come along and find out more at this friendly and inclusive event.” 

Kirstie Hurst-Knight, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children and education, said:- 

“Next Friday promises to be a fun, engaging and really informative day for our parents, carers and young children. We are hoping for a good turn out to share all the services that we have on offer with our community partners and there will be something there for everybody. We are looking forward to meeting Shropshire families and finding out how we can help them to get the best start in life.” 

The Best Start in Life event will be taking place on Friday 27 October 2023 10am-4pm at The Lantern, Meadow Farm Drive, Shrewsbury, SY1 4NG.
