Housing in spotlight for Shropshire Council

Shropshire Councillors and key stakeholders have enjoyed a tour of housing developments constructed or managed by the council’s two arms-length companies Cornovii Developments Limited and Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing Ltd (STAR Housing).

The tour provided an opportunity to showcase the investment that both organisations are making in improving the county’s housing landscape.

Dean Carroll, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for growth, regeneration and housing, said:-

“The tour was an excellent opportunity to showcase the commitment of Shropshire Council and its two arms-length companies, Cornovii Developments Limited and STAR Housing, to deliver high-quality, affordable homes.

“The collaboration will be beneficial for the residents of Shropshire. It is essential that we work together to create quality housing for local people.”

STAR Housing is investing more than £18m in the delivery of 119 high-quality affordable homes, with plans to complete all schemes by November 2025. The company is dedicated to providing high-quality homes that cater to the local housing needs. In total STAR Housing will invest over £50m on new homes over the next five years.

Cornovii Developments Limited is equally ambitious, with a total forecast investment of more than £140 million on new homes by 2029.

Derek Humphreys, chair of Cornovii Developments Limited, said:-

“Our target is to construct 736 homes, including 140 affordable and 33 private rental sector homes.

“We currently have more than 226 new homes onsite, and are proud to be working alongside STAR Housing and Shropshire Council to provide quality homes to the people of Shropshire.”

The tour was also attended by a number of local stakeholders.

Mark Jones, a local Shropshire Councillor for Gobowen, Selattyn and Weston Rhyn, who attended, said:-

“It’s great to see such investment in Shropshire, with both STAR Housing and Cornovii Developments Limited leading the way in providing quality homes for local people.”

The tour consisted of visiting a mix of eight of the companies’ sites, and also stopped for lunch at OsNosh Oswestry, where they were treated to an amazing meal cooked by students of The Marches School.

Tony Deakin, chair of the STAR Housing board, said:-

“The tour was an excellent way for local stakeholders to see the fantastic developments that are taking place in Shropshire and such positive results from our partnerships.”

Harpreet Rayet, managing director of STAR Housing and Cornovii Developments Limited, added:-

“We are committed to building more affordable, sustainable homes and making a positive impact on the housing landscape in Shropshire, and this tour was a good way to show our progress.”
