As well as a state-of-the-art modern gym, the centre boasts a swimming pool, an artificial sports pitch, as well as facilities for squash, badminton, martial arts and pickleball.

Its classes – fitness Pilates, yoga, studio cycling, Swiss ball, aerobics and dedicated post-60 exercise classes – are hugely supported, as is the holiday offer for young children, including swimming lessons, fun splash and inflatables and holiday activities.

The centre also hosts the Exercise on Referral programme, which provides clients with the opportunity to engage in a structured programme of physical activity or exercise under the guidance of a suitably qualified exercise professional.

The skills, knowledge and experience of the instructor allows them to work with clients experiencing a range of conditions such as obesity, diabetes, arthritis, high/low blood pressure and anxiety/depression.

Rob Gittins, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and digital, said:-

“The health and wellbeing of everyone living in Shropshire is a priority for Shropshire Council and we want to do everything possible to ensure we have a healthy population.

“SpArC has recently benefited from a complete gym refurbishment and features the latest Technogym equipment, making it what the operators describe as ‘one of the most sophisticated gyms in the county’.

“Our Exercise on Referral programme has been a great success in Bishop’s Castle and people will be able to find out about that at the open day, as well as enjoy some more informal activities such as the pool inflatable session and a selection of classes.

“It really is an opportunity for people to take a look and see how they can help improve their own health by taking up even just one of the many activities available at SpArC.”

The open day has been rescheduled to Saturday 1 April 2023 after adverse weather forced a postponement.
