As of Thursday 12 January 2023 at 2.30pm

A yellow weather warning for rainfall is in place for Shropshire until 5pm tonight and river levels are increasing.

The River Severn continues to rise in Shrewsbury and is predicted to peak at between 4.2m and 4.7m on Friday night (13 January) into early Saturday morning (14 January).

At 11am on Thursday there were five Flood Warnings and five Flood Alerts which have been issued by the Environment Agency, instructing those living near the county’s watercourses to take action or be prepared for flooding.

The Flood Warnings are in place for the River Severn at Frankwell, the West Mid Showground and The Quarry in Shrewsbury, the River Teme at Stanford Bridge, and the River Vyrnwy at Maesbrook and Melverley.

Flood Alerts are in place for Ledwyche Brook and River Rea, Lower Teme, Rea Brook and Cound Brook, River Severn in Shropshire, Severn Vyrnwy confluence, Tern and Perry catchments and Upper Teme.

People are reminded not to enter floodwaters. Do not drive into floodwaters. Not only is it a risk to life for drivers but abandoning vehicles in floods risk blocking emergency access routes.

Bridgnorth and surrounding areas

The river level is rising steadily and likely to have the first peak between 3pm to 4pm today. It’s likely to remain steady and will rise with an expected peak between 4.5m and 5m Saturday evening/night (14 January).

Community outreach teams will visit tomorrow (Friday 13 January) to offer support and check that those who may be affected are prepared.
