Health checks offered at Shrewsbury livestock auctions
Shropshire Council’s community wellbeing outreach team are offering free health checks at Halls livestock auctions in Shrewsbury for the next four weeks.
The sessions, which will begin on Tuesday 31 January 2023 and run every Tuesday morning until 21 February, will include the chance to have a blood pressure check, as well as more general health and wellbeing advice.
Halls Shrewsbury Livestock Auction Centre, located on Bowman Way off the A49, is one of the busiest markets in the West Midlands. Anybody visiting the auction is welcome to drop in for a health check, with no need to make an appointment beforehand. The community outreach van will be easy to spot, next to the café.
Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult social care, public health and communities, said:-
“Our friendly, approachable and professional outreach team are offering a valuable and convenient service to the community with their free health checks over the next few weeks.
“We all know how important it is to keep a check on our health and wellbeing, but many of us struggle to find the time to make appointments.
“Small concerns that go unchecked can lead to more urgent problems down the line, so this is a golden opportunity to have a chat and get a second opinion on anything that might be troubling you, whether that relates to your physical or your mental health.
“Events like this one are a key part of the Shropshire Plan, improving the health of everybody in our communities and reducing the need for longer term treatment or hospital care.”
