The work involves reinstating the slipped embankment, new drainage system and reinstatement of the carriageway.

Below is a progress update on this work.

Stabilisation works to repair the slipped embankment at the B4373 Ironbridge Road, Broseley are now well underway. Works commenced on 12 September and are now progressing to the next phase, which will require a road closure to traffic for 24 hours a day from 31 October until the anticipated completion date of 16 December.

The key dates for changes to the current traffic regulations orders (TRO) and implementation of temporary traffic regulations orders (TTRO) and road closures are as follows:

  • 24 October – one-way system to be installed on Dark Lane, Cockshutt Lane, Barber Street, High Street (short section between Dark Lane Junction and Barber Street rtoundabout).
  • 31 October – Road closure on Ironbridge Road, Broseley with diversion for through traffic via Much Wenlock and Buildwas.
  • Sunday 13 November (Remembrance Sunday). High Street to be shut in morning between 10am and 12 Noon. One-way system on Dark Lane, Cockshutt Lane, Barber Street and High Street, Broseley to be temporarily lifted for the duration of the event. Traffic marshals will be employed between 9am and 12 noon at strategic junctions/points to control traffic movements.
  • Saturday 26 November (Christmas Lights switch-on). High Street to be shut between 12 noon and 8pm (exact times to be confirmed) with the one-way system on Dark Lane, Cockshutt Lane, Barber Street and High Street, Broseley to be temporarily lifted for the duration of the event. Traffic marshals will be employed between 9am and 9pm at strategic junctions/points to control traffic movements.
  • 16 December – anticipated completion date and removal of all temporary TROs and traffic diversions

No work will be carried out during the two main events in the town ie Remembrance Sunday and Christmas Lights switch-on. During the road closure, HGV and local traffic will be diverted via local roads using a signed one-way diversion route. Through traffic, which would normally use Ironbridge Road, will be diverted via Much Wenlock and Buildwas.

All the TTROs that have been applied for will be implemented as part of the work but will continue to be review as works progress, and any tweaks or alteration implemented as the need arises.

Inevitably there will be some disruption and delays during these works, for which we apologise in advance, and people are thanked for their co-operation during the works so that it can be as efficient, and cause as little inconvenience to them, as possible.

Access along the Ironbridge Road footpath for pedestrians, dismounted cyclists and dismounted horse riders will remain available throughout the duration of the works.

The work is being carried out by Shropshire Council’s term maintenance contractor Kier, with supervision being provided by WSP on behalf of Shropshire Council. Normal working hours are from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
