Shropshire Council committee meetings now live-streamed on YouTube
All Shropshire Council committee meetings are now being streamed direct to the council’s YouTube channel – meaning people can watch them live – or soon afterwards – at www.youtube.com/shropshirecouncil
People can follow meetings from home, or any desktop or mobile device, without the need to travel to the meeting venue – saving time, travel costs and carbon emissions.
Since the start of the pandemic it’s been possible for people to follow Shropshire Council meetings virtually via Microsoft Teams – with recordings of each meeting then manually uploaded to YouTube.
Now, meetings are streamed direct to YouTube making them much more accessible – and easier to find – on all types of device.
Recordings of meeting are also now near instantly available on YouTube, whereas the previous process meant it often took some time for recordings to be uploaded and available to watch.
Meetings available to watch include: Cabinet; full Council; planning committees; overview and scrutiny committees; audit committee and more.
All can be watched live, or at any time after the meeting.
Lezley Picton, leader of Shropshire Council, said:
“Live streaming of council meetings and then uploading them to YouTube became the norm during the pandemic – and has been since – but live streaming direct to YouTube will greatly improve the way we do this, by making meetings much easier to find, watch and follow.
“By live streaming our meetings, people have the chance to watch them without the need to travel to, and sit in, the meeting venue, and makes our meetings open and transparent to all, which can only be a good thing.
“I encourage people to keep an eye on our YouTube channel to see what meeting are coming up, and to look at the meeting agendas to find any items or issues of interest to them.”
