Changes to some waste collection days from November
Changes are to be made to some recycling and waste collection days in the former North Shropshire, South Shropshire and Shrewsbury & Atcham districts/boroughs from 7 November [2022].
The changes are being made by Veolia, Shropshire Council’s recycling and waste partner, to make the collection service more efficient, and reduce the distances that the collection lorries need to travel on their rounds. Around 75% of households in the three areas (c. 78,000 properties) will see their collection day change.
The former Bridgnorth and Oswestry districts aren’t affected, with a similar exercise carried out in the Bridgnorth area last year.
Affected residents will receive an initial leaflet to advise them of the coming changes, with a new collection calendar then delivered in October.
Ian Nellins, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for waste management, said:
“These changes have been carefully planned, and will help Veolia and the council to provide a better, more efficient, more carbon-friendly waste and recycling collection service to residents in the north Shropshire, South Shropshire and Shrewsbury areas – partly as a result of a significant increase in the number of houses across the county.
“The changes would have been made two years ago, but during the pandemic our focus was simply on keeping the collection service going.
“The key message is: please look out for your new collection calendar when it’s delivered. This will tell you if your day is changing, and to what day.
“Other than a possible day change – and a possible collection time change – the service will remain the same as it is now.”
All residents in these areas are reminded that they should continue to present their containers at the kerbside by 7am on their collection day as, even if the day remains the same, the time may change.
