Plan in advance as Birmingham 2022 The Queen’s Baton Relay proceeds through Shrewsbury
With just days to go until Shrewsbury hosts the Birmingham 2022 The Queen’s Baton Relay, final preparations are being made to guarantee events go without a hitch.
On Monday 18 July 2022 the Baton will arrive at Shrewsbury Sports Village, delivered by a Juno helicopter flown by aircrew from Number 1 Flying Training School, from RAF Shawbury. It is scheduled to arrive at 4.38pm.
The convoy will then travel in vehicles to the Flaxmill Maltings. From the Flaxmill Maltings the Baton will be transported on foot around the town by a team of 28 specially selected Batonbearers from across the region.
The procession route and all roads into the town centre will be closed from 4.30pm until 6.10pm, when the Relay will join the riverboat Sabrina from Victoria Quay.
People wanting to cheer the Batonbearers as The Queen’s Baton Relay makes its way across the town are encouraged to line the route from the Flaxmill Maltings.
