Specialised advice and guidance is now available online to support the health needs of Ukrainian refugees, as well as information for host families, in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
Working in partnership to provide important and easy-to-access information, the NHS in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, as well as Shropshire Council, and Telford & Wrekin Council, have created dedicated resources on their respective websites to help Ukrainian refugees access important information.
There is also supporting information available to host families in the county via a handy checklist of how to help their guests access the NHS.
The online pages will act has a hub of information on how to use NHS services, as well as signposting to other organisations that can help. The new webpages explain what services are available within the NHS, and the importance of accessing healthcare as soon as refugees arrive in the county.
Translated into both Ukrainian and Russian, the online resource will allow refugees in the county to access important medical information easily and in their own language. There are also helpful guides to explain how to use NHS 111 and which services or organisations can provide extra help to migrants and asylum seekers.
It is important that refugees arriving in the UK register with their local GP practice as soon as possible, and not wait until they are ill. Refugees do not need ID, proof of address or immigration status to register with a local practice – access is available for all.
Doctors are being asked to hold an initial health consultation with all arrivals from Ukraine to assess medical needs, update immunisations, issue necessary medication and refer to specialists if required.
Our message to all Ukrainian refugees and host families is to please call your local GP practice to register and book an initial appointment. You can also speak with your host families and ask them to support you with this. The NHS is free for all and here to help.
