Resurfacing in Whittington last year

A further nine stretches of road in Shropshire are to be resurfaced in February 2022 as Shropshire Council and its partners Kier and WSP continue their programme of work to improve the county’s roads.

Nearly 50 stretches of road in Shropshire are being resurfaced between November 2021 and March 2022 as part of the council’s annual resurfacing programme. Eleven roads were resurfaced in January 2022.

The roads for which work is due to start in February 2022 – by date – are:

  • 7 to 11 February – Vyrnwy Road, Oswestry
  • 7 to 13 February – Heathton from Claverley to Six Ashes Road
  • 9 to 20 February – B4387 Halfway House to Westbury (dates to be confirmed)
  • 14 to 20 February – B4555 High Street, Highley
  • 12 to 20 February – U2133 Newtown, Whitchurch
  • 21 to 27 February – Morda junction, Trefonen Road
  • 21 February to 6 March – Chirk Road, Gobowen
  • 28 February to 6 March – B4363 Halfway House North to The Rowans
  • 28 February to 6 March – C5139 Habberley to Broomhill Lane

Dean Carroll, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for physical infrastructure, said:

“We’re committed to improving our roads and making them safer for all road users. Our annual resurfacing programme is an important part of this. It will greatly improve nearly 150km of roads, and help to prevent potholes and other problems occurring in the future.

“I’m sure the work will be welcomed by people who use these stretches of road, and I thank people for their patience and understanding while this important work is carried out.”

Peter Woodhead, general manager with Kier, said:

“Our resurfacing programme is key to improving the roads in Shropshire, ensuring they remain safe for all road users.

“We appreciate that carrying out these works will create some inconvenience to those that use and live near the roads we are working on. We will work as efficiently and safely as possible to keep the impact on the local community and environment to a minimum during the programme.”

The dates and details for some resurfacing work that was due to take place in February 2022 have now changed.

Work will now take place in March 2022 to resurface the A41 Chester Road roundabout to Hinton Bank roundabout (7  March to 16 March) and the B4393 Alberbury Road, Alberbury (7 March to 27 March).

And the B4373 North Gate, Bridgnorth will now be surface dressed later this year, rather than resurfaced.

The annual resurfacing programme is put together based on regular inspections and annual surveys of the county’s roads, plus reports from residents, councillors, parish councils and community groups.
