National Highways to repair drainage system on A5 from Five Crosses to Gledrid

Starting next week (14 February 2022) National Highways are carrying out work on the A5 between the Five Crosses and Gledrid roundabouts. The work will be carried out by their contractor, Kier.

What we’re doing and why? What are the benefits?
We’ll be repairing the existing drainage system on the A5 between Five Crosses roundabout and Gledrid roundabout. To complete the work, we may be required to clear a small amount of vegetation, including brambles, blackthorn and trees.

The completed work will reduce the need for future maintenance and ensure the drainage system is working as efficiently as possible. It will also mitigate any localised flooding and standing water on the carriageway.

When will this work take place?
We plan to start this work on 14 February 2022 and we expect to finish by early March 2022.

We’ll work overnight when traffic counts are lower, between 8pm and 5am, Monday to Friday.

We’ll work under full closure of the A5 in both directions, between the Five Crosses roundabout and the Gledrid roundabout.

What does this mean for you?
During closures, we’ll provide fully signed diversion route which will have temporary traffic lights on it to help to manage traffic flow. Emergency vehicles will have access throughout. Please note, our planned work may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

We’ll make every effort to carefully manage noise levels and additional lighting to minimise the impact.
