Shrewsbury’s Heathgates roundabout and Ditherington Road to be resurfaced this month
Heathgates Roundabout and Ditherington Road, Shrewsbury are due to be resurfaced from Monday 21 February to Wednesday 2 March [2022] as part of Shropshire Council’s annual resurfacing programme for 2021/22.
The work – which will consist of resurfacing, new road markings and other improvements – will take place overnight from 8pm to 6am, Monday to Sunday.
Due to the nature of the works, and to ensure they are completed in a safe manner, it will be necessary to close the road to traffic from 8pm to 6am each day.
During the road closure, traffic will be diverted via local roads by a fully signed diversion route.
Dean Carroll, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for highways, said:
“We’ve acknowledged for some time that Heathgates roundabout is in need of resurfacing, so I’m really pleased that this work will be starting soon. From comments we’ve received I know that many people will welcome this work, and I know that they will see a significant improvement once the work is complete.
“Every reasonable effort will be made to complete the work as soon as possible; and we thank local residents and businesses, and road users, for their understanding while this important and much-needed work is carried out.
“It’s also important to stress that local businesses will remain open as normal during this work.”
A section of road from the traffic lights towards the town centre will be left, to prevent Severn Trent digging up the newly-laid surface when they carry out installations for a new development.
