Longden Road, Shrewsbury, closed for sewer pipe repairs

Related topics: Highways, transport and environmental maintenance / Partner organisations

Severn Trent Water will today begin work to repair a collapsed sewer pipe on Longden Road in Shrewsbury, with work due to be completed by Friday, providing there are no unforeseen circumstances.

The pipe is situated underneath the middle of the road, adjacent to the Kingsland Road junction.

Due to the location of the sewer an urgent temporary road closure will be required to undertake a permanent repair.

Due to the recent heavy rain, sewage has seeped on to the road, meaning the road has been closed today (Monday), rather than on Wednesday as originally planned.

Severn Trent operatives are currently using tankers to relieve the system on a daily basis to prevent the road from flooding.

Whilst the road is closed traffic will be diverted via a signed diversion route and access will be maintained to properties and businesses at all times.

Affected residents and business will be notified and advance warning signs are to be placed on site.
