Coronavirus: News from our partners – Grant support for Arts for Health projects in Shropshire
News from our partners Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT)
Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to have been awarded an arts grant by Shropshire Council to support creative activity for inpatients and service users in the community.
The grants have been awarded in response to the coronavirus pandemic to support a range of arts organisations, venues and festivals across the county.
Arts for Health
The Arts for Health team at MPFT have been working with a number of different artists and musicians to offer resources for use at The Redwoods Centre in Shrewsbury and by people using the Trust’s community.
The specially-created resources, which take account of social distancing and infection control requirements, include individual art boxes and specially recorded music performances for people to join in with. The team have also developed an online art gallery for service users, carers, staff and partners to contribute to.

Jessica Kent, Arts for Health Lead at MPFT, said:-
“We are very grateful for the funding, it is very welcome and enables Arts for Health to continue delivering to those most at need as well as continuing to support the professional artists who work with us on a regular basis.”
Staff at The Redwoods are very appreciative of the resources:-
“We showed the video of Ashley Wall on Pine ward on Friday and the inpatients loved it! They sat focussed and attentive, they clapped and sang along with Ashley and asked when can we do this again!!?”
“The art boxes are amazing, our patients spent the weekend doing great art.”
“We laminated the art work so they can take it with them on their journey. There are so many thing to do in the box it’s been a real asset to Oak ward. thank you so much.”
