Coronavirus: Shropshire Council’s message of thanks for Key Workers
On Thursday (23 April 2020) Shropshire Council sent a heartfelt message of thanks to all the Key Workers and volunteers of the coronavirus pandemic.
Projected from Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury, the message read:
“Thank you to our amazing Key Workers”, with a rainbow-coloured heart – an image that has come to symbolise society’s gratitude to those carrying out essential work during lockdown. The message, visible from several vantage points across the town from dusk and shared across the council’s social media channels, was seen by thousands of people.
Andy Begley and Karen Bradshaw, Shropshire Council’s joint interim chief executives, said:
“This message is for the key workers and volunteers – all of them – that continue to do such important work while we fight coronavirus. Whether their work involves frontline care for the sick and vulnerable, or other essential roles such as cleaning, refuse collection, delivery driving, teaching or the production and distribution of food, we want them to know they are all worthy of praise and that the whole community is behind them.”
Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture, leisure, waste and communications, said:
“We are so grateful to the amazing key workers of Shropshire Council and the many other organisations working tirelessly to get us through these difficult times.
“The theatre is one of our most prominent buildings, and we hope this message – a small token of our appreciation – will be seen by both passers-by and followers on social media, and go some way to brighten their day.”
