Coronavirus: Keeping busy with Shropshire Archives
While Shropshire Archives is closed due to coronavirus, there are a number of ways you can stay engaged.
All of our events and those run by the Friends of Shropshire Archives are cancelled up to the end of June 2020 at least. We hope to be able to run events later in the year, but will assess the situation nearer the time. We are planning to reschedule the Volunteer showcase and surplus OS map sale, when times are better.
Our staff will be maintaining a limited enquiries service, but in line with the current restrictions will be working remotely. We will be able to give general advice, but we will not be able to conduct research within documents or provide images at this time.
Visit our website
You’ll find plenty of tips for research and guides to types of records at www.shropshirearchives.org.uk. Browse the collections pages to see what records we hold.
Search our online catalogue by using the search box at the top of each page. This will search our webpages, lists of documents and local studies collection. If you are particularly interested in images, you can filter the search to show results with images only. We’re hoping to add more catalogues and online content so it’s worth searching on a regular basis.
Most Shropshire parish registers up to 1900 are available to search at www.findmypast.co.uk

If you’ve had the time to write up any of your own research, we are always interested in what you’ve found out.
On social media this month (April 2020) we are following the #Archives30 themes, starting off with your favourite item.
Let us know your suggestions. Have you got an archive mystery or have you uncovered a secret during your research? We’re also looking for sport and fashion archives as well as something scary and something small!
Shropshire Archives is currently closed to the public to reduce the spread of coronavirus. This temporary closure will be in place until further notice.
During this time, please ensure you follow Government guidelines about how to keep yourself and others safe.
