Arts café event at Qube in Oswestry on Tuesday 18 February

Artists, community and voluntary art organisations, and anyone interested in the arts are invited to attend an arts network event on Tuesday 18 February at Qube, Oswestry Community Action from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The event is free, and provides an opportunity to network, exchange ideas, information and learn new skills.

The main focus of the event is a workshop by Sculpturelogic (Liz Turner and Keith Ashford) called “Overlapping Borders”, with a theme of maps and movement.

“Overlapping Borders”

You will have the opportunity to work in groups or individually, using collage and drawing to create content for a labyrinth at Cremorne Gardens, Ellesmere. English, Rohinja and Kurdish scripts and words will be explored during the workshop. These words will also be used within the labyrinth, to communicate the impact of displacement on identity. The finished artworks will be photographed and used to inform the pathway design of the labyrinth.

The workshop is part of an Ellesmere Sculpture Initiative Heritage Lottery Funded project – “Children Displaced by Conflict: The Heritage of Eglantyne Jebb, Founder of The Save the Children Fund”. The project explores the work and legacy of Eglantyne Jebb and the Save the Children Fund.

Throughout the evening artists will have the opportunity to network and exchange ideas and information. All materials provided.

Refreshments will be available. You’ll have the chance to try some delicious Syrian food.
