Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery (SM&AG) is taking part in the DarwIN festival this February and offering free entry from Friday 14 – Sunday 16 February 2020.

The DarwIN Festival celebrates the life and work of Shrewsbury’s world famous son, Charles Darwin in a series of exciting events held in venues around the town.

During your visit you will be able to explore SM&AG’s permanent collections and, in recognition of Darwin’s career as a geologist, enjoy the Evolving Shropshire exhibition absolutely free.

Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council Cabinet member for culture, leisure, waste and communications, said:

“I’m pleased SM&AG is working in partnership with the Shrewsbury BID to celebrate the father of evolution in his birthplace.

“SM&AG has a wonderful geology collection and pays homage to the life and work of Darwin so I’d encourage everyone to make the most of the free entry and to take part in the Big Draw!”

Seb Slater, executive director of Shrewsbury BID, said:

The DarwIN Shrewsbury Festival is all about encouraging people to be curious and explore the world around them, and what better way to do that than by visiting Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery?

It’s fantastic that Shropshire Council is joining the festival by offering free entry on these dates during the event, and we hope as many people as possible make the most of the opportunity.

The Big Draw!

SM&AG are taking part in the Campaign for Drawing’s Big Draw festival and giving it a Darwin theme.

Drop-in between 11-3pm on 14, 15 & 16 February to create bug, butterfly and fossil inspired artwork to celebrate Charles Darwin’s passion for the natural world.

The winning entries from the Morris & Company Darwin Young Thinkers art competition will be on display in the museum entrance and are sure to give you inspiration.
