Earn while you learn – apprenticeships in revenues and benefits

Related topics: Corporate

Shropshire Council’s revenues and benefits service is offering six people the opportunity to earn while they learn as part of the council’s drive to give people the skills and experience to build a career, as well as allowing it to develop the skilled workers that it needs.

The service provides vital statutory services to the council in the assessment and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates and assessment and payment of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support.

Six apprentices are being sought to support the busy teams within the service and help shape its future.

These are new roles on two-year fixed term contracts where successful applicants will work across different parts of the revenues and benefit service, as well as working towards the Revenues and Benefits Practitioner Level 4 Apprenticeship.

There will be plenty of support available and, once in post, apprentices will report directly to the revenues and benefits training and development manager within the service. Once the course is complete, there may also be an opportunity to secure full time employment in the service.

Councillor David Minnery, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for finance and corporate support, said:

“We’re delighted to be offering so many opportunities within the revenues and benefits service and it’s great to be able to invest in our workforce.

“We’re looking for enthusiastic, forward-thinking people with a broad skill set, as they will be dealing with a wide variety of people, from council tax payers, businesses, benefit claimants and other support agencies.

“They will also need to be good with numbers, able to interpret and explain legislation, and be proficient with using IT systems.”

The council will be offering those interested the ability to meet the team and find out more about what they do on Wednesday 14 August 2019 at Shirehall in Shrewsbury from 1.30pm.
