People looking to start a new hobby or pastime are being encouraged to learn the art of lino print at a series of free workshops being held in Shrewsbury’s Darwin Shopping Centre this month.

Led by Ironbridge-based designer, illustrator and printmaker Amanda Hillier, the workshops are free and open to all. Amanda will work with participants to explore the composition, technique and method of lino printing, helping them to design and carve their own lino block and create a series of vibrant and colourful prints to take home.

The workshops are being held in the Workshop Station in the Darwin Centre (opposite JD Sports) from 10am – 1pm on Thursdays 11, 18 and 25 April.

Amanda said:

“You don’t have to be able to draw to create fun patterns and designs, anyone can join in! Young children can also take part without having to use sharp tools by stamping with pre-made shapes. You can drop in, and can stay for a short time or for the whole session, but it’s best to get there as early as possible to take advantage of carving your own lino.”

Kevin Lockwood, Shrewsbury shopping centres manager, said:

“Whether you’ve a fleeting fancy for trying something new, want to learn a new skill, or start up a new hobby or pastime, I highly recommend joining Amanda for one of these fantastic, free, workshops.”

The first in the series of four lino print workshops was held on Thursday 4 April.
