Young entrepreneurs to set up shop at Shrewsbury’s Darwin Centre

Budding young entrepreneurs will be setting up stands in the Darwin Shopping Centre in Shrewsbury on Saturday 26 January and Saturday 9 February [2019] to showcase their fledgling businesses as part of a Young Enterprise trade fair.

On the days the Young Enterprise teams will be talking to shoppers, explaining their business ideas, and hoping to sell some of their products.

The trade stands will be open to the public between 9am and 4pm.

The fairs are part of the Young Enterprise Company Programme which supports teams of students in participating schools – helping them to develop their commercial skills into viable businesses that are judged against national criteria.

As well as producing business plans and providing financial information, each team also has to attend a ‘Dragons’ Den’ type interview and deliver a four minute presentation to judges, to compete for local and national awards.

David Graham, area manager for Young Enterprise Shropshire, said:

“Meeting the public, talking to the judges and the Mayor of Shrewsbury who generally attends is a very valuable learning opportunity for these Shropshire entrepreneur of the future.

 “It’s a lot of work for everyone involved – the volunteers, the business advisers, the teachers, the staff at the centre – and of course the students – but it’s always worth it to see the enthusiasm and determination to succeed shown by our young people.”  

Kevin Lockwood, Shrewsbury shopping centres manager, said:

“The trade fairs are open to the public and the students welcome the opportunity to interact with shoppers. We encourage people to come and meet Shropshire’s young entrepreneurs, and to see what Young Enterprise is up to this year.”

On the two days Young Enterprise Local Volunteer Board members and volunteers will all be on hand to talk about the Young Enterprise Company Programme.
