Shrewsbury shopping centres welcome six new tenants – including The Disney Store
The Disney Store is set to open in Shrewsbury’s Darwin Centre at the end of October 2018 – one of six new tenants that will start trading in the town’s Darwin and Pride Hill centres before Christmas.
The news follows the announcement by JD Sports that they are to open a new store in the centre later this month.
At the same time, national retailer Menkind have returned to the Darwin Centre on the top level, opposite the new JD Sports unit.
Calendar Club will again open a Christmas shop in the Darwin Centre in the run-up to Christmas, and Chikpe has also opened a store on the middle level of the centre.
Local artist Megan Hawkins will be opening her unit on the middle level of the Pride Hill Centre in early November.
These new tenants mean that vacancy rates in the Pride Hill and Darwin centres are at their lowest levels since 2012. The vacancy level in the Darwin Centre is 10 per cent (five units) and in the Pride Hill Centre it’s eight per cent (three units).
Kevin Lockwood, Shrewsbury shopping centres manager, said:
“With new stores opening and vacancy rates at their lowest level for six years, this is great news for the centres and for Shrewsbury.
“Customers told us that they would love to see a Disney store in the centre, so we approached Disney and were delighted when they said they would be interested. We’re now looking forward to them opening in time for Christmas and are sure they’ll be a popular and successful addition to the centre.
“We’re very excited about JD Sports opening in the Darwin Centre and delighted to welcome Menkind and Chikpe back to the centre – and we look forward to Calendar Club and Megan Hawkins opening shortly.”
