Max, from Lincolnshire, said:

“My degree choice was a last minute option. I was struggling with finding a course and, in the end, decided that Medical Genetics would suit me, and it turned out to be a good choice.

“The course has been great. Working in the labs and learning such a vast array of scientific techniques has been both fun and interesting. From extracting DNA to analysing viruses, the labs have really been a cornerstone of the experience.

“Achieving my degree has been hard work, but the lecturers have been fantastic – they deserve a lot of credit. With UCS being a relatively small student base, your lecturers are able to work so closely with you and really help you achieve.

“Outside your studies, there’s quite a wide range of activities available, academic, sporting and recreational alike. Societies have been formed and are growing by the year, and joining one was definitely a great experience. Playing football for UCS was incredibly fun, coupled with many opportunities to visit other cities and towns with the Students’ Union for days out and obligatory nights out.”

Reflecting further on what stands out from his time at UCS, Max, who is now looking to study a PhD, added:

“My highlights have to include the UCS team – with the help from all the incredible people I’ve met along this journey I’ve fortunately made it out the other end, and with a First.

“I’ll also remember the feel and vibes of UCS. Shrewsbury is a quintessential market town, with some incredible scenery. UCS brings a great dynamic to the town, acting as a hub for academia, while maintaining a relaxed yet focused attitude, something I think was key to my time at UCS.”
