Youth centre use STAR Housing monies for summer success
News from our partners Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing (STAR Housing)
The Bridge Youth Centre has been granted £750 by STAR Housing to help young people in Bridgnorth. The youth centre has been an active group in Bridgnorth for 24 years, helping young people become secure, successful, proactive and independent.
The youth centre applied for Community Chest Funding from STAR Housing to run two weeks of outdoor activities, with food also provided, to help keep young people off the streets during the summer holidays. Between 50 and 100 young people turned up each evening to take part in the activities held at the Crown Meadow site in Bridgnorth.
A total of 160 people attended the activities over the two weeks which included football, ultimate frisbee and laser tag.
A local resident who attended one of the evenings said:
“Fantastic summer entertainment in Crown Meadow park. The kids have had a ball, thank you so much. Top class fun and all free too. Amazing!”
The Bridge Youth Centre’s manager, John Prockter, was asked about how the money has affected its efforts to help young people in the community. He said:
“With the help of STAR Housing we were able to provide everyone with high quality activities for free. Without their help we wouldn’t be able to achieve any of this.
“It really was an absolutely wonderful time, and I’m so grateful for the help from STAR Housing who made this project a reality for a second year.”
STAR Housing’s neighbourhood manager Martin Whitelegg has told of how pleased STAR are with how the monies have been used:-
“It is fantastic to hear that the money has been used to improve young lives and show how you can have fun on summer evenings in a healthy, positive way.”
