New website aims to help people find the right home in the right place
People in need of housing in Shropshire are being urged to visit a new website where they can let Shropshire Council know what type of housing they need, and where they need it.
The council knows that the housing waiting list does not include all those that are in need of housing, and there are still households that haven’t identified their need because they are reluctant to say.
Now the council has launched the ‘Right Home, Right Place’ website [www.righthomerightplace.com] to make it easier for people to say what housing they need and where by completing an online housing needs survey.
Once this need has been identified, the council can work with local communities, housing associations, land owners and businesses to help ensure that the right homes are built in the right place.
Robert Macey, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for planning, said:
“So that we can provide the right homes in the right place we need people to tell us what type of housing they need and where they need it. This may, for example, be people living with parents but wanting their own place, older people looking to downsize, or someone looking for a house nearer to work.
“At present people are put off from telling us what type of housing they need and where, or are unaware how to. To address this we’ve created the Right Home, Right Place scheme and website to help us to engage with those in need.
“Once we know more about what the need is, we’ll speak to the local housing associations and land owners, but also to local business and employers as provision of accommodation will help to attract and retain workers.”
The Right Home Right Place website also provides information about affordable housing, community housing and housing in general.

Prees housing needs survey
Although Shropshire Council will be collecting data for the whole of Shropshire, we will also be targeting individual areas – the first one being Prees. The housing needs survey for Prees was launched on 2 June 2018 and will run until 24 June, though people can continue to complete the surveys after this time. All residents in Prees will have received a postcard asking them to visit the Right Home Right Place website – www.righthomerightplace.com – or to contact the council for further details.
