Volunteers needed to support older people in Shrewsbury
News from our partners Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin
Local charity Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin is urgently seeking volunteers to ensure its Shrewsbury day services continue to run smoothly in 2018.
The charity is looking for a number of volunteers to help out at their day centres in the Shrewsbury area. Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin has 39 day centres across the county, running weekly from 10am until 3pm. It is often the only time when older people get out and about to see anyone all week.
There are two volunteer vacancies for helpers at Louise House day centre on Roman Road on Fridays. Castlefields day centre is every Monday and they are looking for a helper as well as an organiser who can lead a small team of volunteers.
Volunteer minibus escorts are required to support the driver and help members to and from the day centres at Porchfield day centre on a Wednesday at Abbotts Road and Louise House on Fridays. Greenacres day centre at Harlescott needs a car driver on Wednesdays to use their own car to transport members.
Heather Osborne, Chief Executive of Age UK STW, said:
“We have a number of volunteer vacancies for the new year that we would like to fill as soon as possible. Our day centres are run by volunteers, with support from our staff. They have such a positive impact on the lives of older people by offering companionship and support. Donating a couple of hours each week really does improve the quality of life for those older people sitting alone behind closed doors.”
If you would like to be a volunteer for Age UK STW please contact Claire or Janice in the Volunteer Recruitment Team on 01743 588570. Alternatively, visit www.ageukshropshireandtelford.org.uk
