Volunteers needed at day centre for older people in Oswestry

Age UK Shropshire Telford and Wrekin is urgently seeking volunteer helpers to be part of the team running its Oswestry day centre for older people at Monkmoor Court, just off Middleton Road.
The day centre is every Thursday from 10am-2pm, and the local charity is looking for helpers to set up the room, welcome members, serve refreshments and support the organiser with a range of social activities during the four hours.
Heather Osborne, Chief Executive of Age UK STW, said:
“Our day centres are a lifeline for lonely older people in the town. Often it is the only time when they get out and about to see anyone all week. We desperately need more volunteers to come forward to provide companionship and support at our Oswestry day centre.”
Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin has 39 day centres across the county. They are all run by volunteers; however, the local charity provides training, expenses and ongoing support.

Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin offers a range of services for older people in the county. These include: Information and Advice, Day Centres, dementia support, the Help at Home Service, volunteer befriending visitors, Home from Hospital services, Lunch Clubs, Living Well activities, Benefits Advice, and Advocacy on behalf of older people.
Last year over 100,000 volunteer hours were given to support older people, ranging from helping people to fill in benefits forms, supporting people in our 40 Day Centres, visiting isolated older people at home, to acting as receptionists in our Shrewsbury office.
As part of our ‘No one should have No one’ campaign, we are raising money and recruiting volunteers to increase services such as befriending and social activities that reduce isolation and loneliness among older people in Shropshire.
