Shropshire good causes to benefit when people sign up to SSE phone and broadband

Good causes in Shropshire could soon benefit from local people changing their phone and broadband provider.

As part of its partnership with Shropshire Council, SSE will give Shropshire Council £20 when Shropshire residents, Shropshire Council staff and those working for the council’s partner organisations sign up to its new fixed-price phone and broadband package.

In turn, Shropshire Council will donate this money to an agreed local good cause. A different good cause will be chosen every three months.

Between 1 October and 31 December 2017 money raised will be used to produce online ‘e-learning’ training packages to help teach food bank users how to use a computer and access the internet. This is vital as many central government services will soon only be accessible online and for those who cannot use a computer, such training may be a lifeline.

The training is an important part of a wider package of support that will see Shropshire Council donate IT equipment to the foodbanks and other charities.

Money is also given to Shropshire Council when people switch to SSE’s new Shropshire community energy tariff, and this money will also be donated to the chosen good cause.

Nic Laurens, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for economic growth, said:

“Through our partnership with SSE local good causes will now benefit when people switch to the Shropshire community energy tariff, and to SSE’s new phone and broadband package. This means that people could save money on their bills, and local good causes could benefit – which really is a win-win.”
