Significant refurbishment planned for Much Wenlock Library
Much Wenlock Library is all set for a significant refurbishment as part of a partnership arrangement between Much Wenlock Town Council and Shropshire Council. The refurbishment will include internal decoration and new carpeting, lighting and heating. There will also be new shelving, a new library counter and a Much Wenlock Town Council customer service desk for all town council enquiries.
The refurbishment is part of a funding agreement that will see Much Wenlock Town Council support the library financially, thus securing the future of the library for several years.
Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and leisure, said:
“Although it remains a challenging time for library services, the positive outlook for Much Wenlock Library shows what can be achieved when everyone works together for the benefit of the community. Our vision is to make libraries the heart of the communities they serve, and this is a great example of that in action.”
Councillor Graham Edgcumbe Venning, Mayor of Much Wenlock, said:
“This refurbishment will significantly improve the look of the library, giving it a lighter and more modern feel. Incorporating a town council customer service desk within the library will make it much easier for residents to speak to town council staff face to face without the need to negotiate the stairs up to the town council offices.”
To enable the refurbishment work to be carried out safely the library will be open as normal on Saturday 4 November 2017, then closed for six weeks. The library will be due to reopen on Saturday 16 December. During this period of closure the mobile library service will be available on Saturday mornings between 10am and 12pm in the car park at the back of the library. Library users will be able to borrow and return library items in the usual way. Note that library fines will not be charged during the period of closure.
