Mrs Mary Smith from Pinefields in Much Wenlock has been crowned the winner of this year’s Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing garden competition.
Mary beat of stiff competition to win ‘best overall garden’ out of impressive number of entries – the largest since the competition started.
Mary said:
“I’m very pleased I won, it’s been a pleasure to be included in this and everyone is so lovely when they come round, they all like the colours. I’m technically registered blind but I find my own way in my own time.”
Steve Ogram, Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing’s Finance Director, said:
“We’d like to offer our congratulations to Mary. Picking an overall winner was difficult, but Mary’s garden just stood out.”
Other worthy winners include:
- Mr Round and Mrs Healey from Rhea Hall in Highley – winners of ‘Best Hanging Basket’
- Mrs M Rogers from Fitzalan Close in Oswestry – winner of ‘Best Vegetable Garden’
- Mr Sheldon, Betty Roberts and Eric Morris from Yorkfields in Oswestry – winner of ‘Best Community Garden’.
Steve added:
“Once again the competition was a great success and we received more entries than ever before. We were also so impressed with the calibre of entries this year.
“The variety and colour of the displays brighten our neighbourhoods and are a credit to the hard work and dedication of the gardeners. Thanks to everyone who entered and nominated others. We look forward to next year’s event.”
All winners and runners up have received a certificate and a voucher.
