Shrewsbury’s civic church, St Chad’s, is leading an Appeal Project to commemorate the precious lives lost in The Great War.  A new Roll of Honour has been produced, drawing together information from all the war memorials throughout the county; as part of the project, copies of this are being donated to Shropshire Libraries and Shropshire Archives to enable greater access to the Roll of Honour.

St Chad’s is holding Remembrance Services every Wednesday at 5pm to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice 100 years ago that week, to which all are welcome.

Catherine Westwood, Shropshire Council’s team librarian, who has collected the documents on behalf of Shropshire Libraries Service and Shropshire Archives, said:-

“We are very grateful to St Chad’s Church and their Shropshire’s Sacrifice in the Great War project, for donating these copies of the Roll of Honour to Shropshire Libraries. We are proud to able to have these records available in our branches, so they will be accessible to the people of Shropshire, visitors and family and local history researchers.”

Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and leisure, said:

“Shropshire’s libraries and Archives are an important focal point in the community and are ideally placed for holding such an important and valued record as the Shropshire Roll of Honour.”
