Severn Valley Country Park to host a performance of Far From The Madding Crowd

Shrewsbury-based theatre company Hotbuckle Productions will be returning to Severn Valley Country Park to perform their new adaptation of the Thomas Hardy classic “Far From the Madding Crowd” on Saturday 27 May 2017.

Hotbuckle have a cast of four players who are able to breathe new life into this classic tale through song, music, dance and creative set dressing. The play has been adapted by Adrian Preater, who also directs and performs in the production. Adrian Preater has injected a contemporary twist to the original text by adding humour to successfully bring the story to a modern audience.

Far From The Madding Crowd

The story follows young farmer Gabriel Oak and his love for and pursuit of the elusive and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene. Her wayward nature, however, leads her into the path of the dashing Sergeant Troy “…the past was yesterday; never, the day after” and the introverted and reclusive gentleman farmer, Mr Boldwood, whose love for her fills him with “…a fearful sense of exposure” culminating almost inevitably in both tragedy and true love.

BBC Radio Shropshire calls the production “A thoroughly loveable adaptation which is laugh-out-loud funny and yet still purveys the darkness of the classic tale with respectful authenticity”.

The story will be brought to the stage on Saturday 27 May 2017. This is an indoor performance to be held in the visitor centre at Severn Valley Country Park.
