Shrewsbury Half Marathon (18 June 2017) – information for spectators and town centre visitors
Roads in and around Shrewsbury will be temporarily closed on the morning of Sunday 18 June 2017, when hundreds of people are expected to take part in this year’s Shrewsbury Half Marathon.
The race starts at 9am with roads being closed to traffic beforehand for the set-up operation.
As last year, the race starts and ends at the County Showground. The route takes runners through the town centre and out of town along Berwick Rd (B5067), Huffley Lane, and Ellesmere Road (A528).
You can also see a plan of the route here.
Roads will be reopened as the race progresses and when the last runners come through. The event is expected to be complete by approximately 12noon.
It’s anticipated that town centre part of the route will be reopened from approximately 11.15am.
Thousands of people are expected to line the route on the day and cheer the runners on. Those arriving by car are being reminded that all car parks will be open as usual, with Abbey Foregate and Frankwell car parks the easiest ones to get to whilst the race is on.
People can pay £1 and park all day in the town centre’s long stay car parks on a Sunday – or pay £1 and park for the maximum time allowed in the short stay car parks.
And, although there will be some disruption to traffic, shops and businesses in the town will be open as usual.
