Connecting Shropshire and local councils project a bright Christmas for the Market Hall in Shrewsbury
Over the past few years Shrewsbury has been lit up over the Christmas period by festive illuminations on the Market Hall.
The illuminations this year are set for a twist with the county’s broadband programme, Connecting Shropshire, and Shropshire Council supporting the festive tradition with a range of fun and interesting projections.
This year’s illuminations were looking unlikely to happen and by stepping in and supporting the project, Connecting Shropshire and Shropshire Council are ensuring the Christmas lights tradition continues in Shrewsbury.
While the illuminations have been running since last week, projections from Connecting Shropshire and Shropshire Council are set to start from today (Thursday 1 December 2016) and run until mid-January.
Projections will include festive and informative displays from Shropshire Council organisations including Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery, Theatre Severn and Acton Scott Farm.
Steve Charmley, Deputy Leader of Shropshire Council and Cabinet member responsible for broadband, said:
“These projections will costs us less than £20 a day and as well as looking fantastic, they will allow us to promote the programme and other council services through these illuminations, helping us raise awareness of the service that is now available across rural and urban areas of Shropshire to those who may not currently know of the opportunity they have.”
Stuart West, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for leisure and culture, said:
“The illuminations are a great attraction for Shrewsbury over Christmas and represent a fantastic opportunity for the council to promote areas such as Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery, Theatre Severn and Acton Scott Farm in a way that is affordable and adds something to the town.
“I’d like to thank Moss Bros in Shrewsbury for supporting the illuminations in allowing the displays to be projected from their shop.”
The illuminations are being created and projected by international light artist Andy McKeown, who is local to the Shropshire.
The illuminations will be projected from Moss Bros in Shrewsbury opposite the Market Hall.
Shrewsbury Market Hall offers a unique shopping experience for Shropshire residents and visitors offering products and fresh fruit and vegetables from local traders. See here for opening hours.
