Shropshire libraries showcase the best of poetry during National Poetry Month 2016

Shropshire’s libraries are joining the annual mass celebration of poetry and all things poetical this month, with a variety of top regional poets coming to the county.

Poetry on Loan bring you three of the best West Midlands poets, with poems for postcards, poems for fun, and poems for thinking about. Cathy Whittaker, Spoz and Emma Purshouse will be performing at Market Drayton Library on 4 October 2016 at 7pm.

The Emergency Poet, Deb Alma, will be launching her new book of poetry anthology, ‘The Everyday Poet!’ at Oswestry Library on National Poetry Day, 6 October 2016, at 7.30pm. Come along and get your copy signed. Click here for more.

One of the UK’s most distinctive and popular poets, Brian Patten comes to deliver scrupulously crafted, heartbreakingly honest, funny and uplifting poems on Saturday 22 October 2016 at Ludlow Assembly Rooms from 3pm to 4pm. To book your place click here. Brian made his name in the 1960s as one of the Liverpool Poets, alongside Adrian Henri and Roger McGough. He has published over forty books including Collected Love Poems and Selected Poems.

Stuart West, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and leisure, said:

“Whether you have already discovered poetry or not, Shropshire Libraries have organised a great variety of performance events for everyone to enjoy during Poetry Month. Libraries have a fantastic selection of poetry books to choose from too. I would urge people to go and find out what’s on offer in their local library.”
